“Praise the LORD! For it is good to sing praises to our God; for it is pleasant, and a song of praise is fitting.” Psalm 147:1
The worship team continued to serve another year with the benefits of technology, training, practice and the desire to sing praises to The Lord. Wednesday night practices start with prayer and vocal exercises – ma, me, mi, mo, mu – up and down the scale. Usually the agenda includes the offertory songs for the coming four weeks and in each season a special piece. As often is the case, the first practice of the special music is somewhat choppy and hardly melodic but within a few weeks the song becomes familiar and Fiona starts to focus on the words. Mindful that we yearn to worship with praise not performance we strive with the help of digital files to practice the days before and after the session. Sunday morning we have a practice session with Susan Ibach who faithfully provides piano accompaniment.
Oh come, let us sing to The Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!” Psalm 95:1
Our sessions often include banter among the sopranos, altos, tenors and basses. We end with prayer and share snack prepared by one of the team members. During the year we’ll celebrate with a family BBQ and Hot Pot. Our fellowship anchors the fullness of praise as the parts come together to hopefully minister to the congregation and glorify our Lord.
“Shout for joy to The Lord, all the earth. Worship The Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful song. Psalm 100:1-2.
This year also included the homecoming of Linni Chin, one of our beloved alto singers. She leaves a legacy of diligence and fervor to give of her best to the Master. We remember her joy in singing and are comforted that we will see her again.
“I will be glad and exult in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High” Psalm 9:2
